Re: Introducing the audience to a setting
You can convey exposition in a variety of ways, with varying levels of sophistication and success. The most obvious is to have a narrated prologue, which is fine for most stories but lacks the deft for more subtle interplay. If the protagonist is unfamiliar with the setting, then they can have it e...

Introducing the audience to a setting
I'm having trouble introducing the setting for my game Freedom from Silence. I'm having a lot of trouble making an opening that introduces enough of the setting to make sense while also somehow drawing players in. The nature of story means that I have two openings (one for each protagonist) which do...

Re: The role of men in a magical girl narrative
I'm also looking around for some kind of one-on-one mentor who can help me out with some of the stickier details of this project, but I have no idea what recruitment thread to post that sort of request in. I might be able to offer some help, I have my own projects but I like to talk to people while...

Re: The role of men in a magical girl narrative
I would also look at Steven Universe . While Steven is the main character, he's still learning how his powers work, with the help of the other Crystal Gems, and unlike most male heroes, he has defensive and healing abilities instead of offensive ones, and he's still very much in a trainee position....

Re: How is your project going (or not going)?
I started working on a short little side project...then nephews and nieces happened. Granted, what I'm currently making is probably going to end up being an RPG though.

Re: On Forum Rules and Moderation
I've been looking at the thread for a while wondering if I should even post again or not, and well my descision is obvious based on this post existing. The only thing I really have to say is that I probably am paranoid, I've had bad expirences with various types of exclusion and I had a bit of a kne...

This sounds really interesting, and I feel like you might get a larger audience than you suspect. I know there are a lot of people here who would probably like this VN, myself included. I'm looking forward to the release.

Re: On Forum Rules and Moderation
To tell.l. the truth, the blacklist thing kinda makes me uncomfortable. First thing i wondered was if I was on anyone's list, then i began to think about what would happen if i was. Sometimes it feels like theres an ingroup and an outgroup on LSF and the idea of blacklistimg people, perhaps irration...

Re: Archetyping without Stereotyping
Leaf Wind hails from the east. She'll have some cultural baggage. Traditions in the west would be alien to her and vice versa. Yes, she has her own opinions, however, some of behaviors and ideas are clearly the product of her archetype/culture. I think it would be an offense to cut off part of her....

Re: Favourite Final Fantasy?
I like FF6 the best, I didn't really like the ones beyond that besides XII. 7 didn't hold my interest beyond Midgar, 8 was okay but I didn't like the Junctioning too much, 9's battles felt kinda slow to me, 10's story was horrible, never played 11, and 13 is...13. 14 was kinda fun but my guild sucke...

1. The game interests me a lot because I enjoy basketball to a degree, I'm not to fond of watching it on T.V. though. 2. I don't really have a character i dislike, but I like Mia, mainly cause I tend to like the ace player type character in sports media. 3. As for highschool life, I'm fond of people...

Re: Writing Likeable Murderers?
Well, except for people who know how mental illness works (or are mentally ill themselves) - those find the Batman villains, including the Joker, to generally be rather cliche and infuriating instead of sympathetic. Or am I the only one who feels that way? In either case, I find the way he is usual...

Have you seen Afro Samurai? If not I think it'd be a good watch. Afro is amoral, even though he's trying to avenge his father he's never presented as being in the right. His opponents except for possibly the Empty Seven Clan are never really presented as evil, or at least they aren't presented as be...

Re: SC2VN - [Slice of Life, eSports]
I started playing the demo and it really speaks to me. When I was playing more seriously I felt the same way, sometimes I feel that way in regards to game development. I am having trouble with a lot of the terminology though. I'm playing the kickstarter demo ATM, and even though I don't know all the...

Re: SC2VN - [Slice of Life, eSports]
I'm into e-sports...well if you count fighting games as e-sports. The culture of fighting games seems really different from the RTS and MOBAs though. Still I love the atmosphere of fighting game tournaments so if it's anything like that I should love this game. I've been to locals for my region's a...
