Re: Inverness Nights [BxB/history/fantasy]
AHAHAHA I haven't updated this thread in almost two months, well done me. Okay! Update info for February: -We've had a title change! Seven Stories with Tristram the Tailor is now Inverness Nights. I discussed this with my fantastic advisor-y buddy Bishop, and we discovered there was another game wit...

Re: Need Help Planning....
How do you plan for your visual novel? I generally break things down into progressively smaller pieces until I have a clear plan for a game, in all respects-- plot, assets, how to approach the work. I start with either a high concept or a set of elements I want to include, and start off by drawing ...

Re: Present vs Past Tense, Narration vs Graphic
The main reason why present tense is favoured in visual novels (as well as gaming as a whole) is because gaming is a present-tense medium; as opposed to film and novels which are past-tense. What this means is that, because of player interaction, the story is always being created as you play it. If ...

Re: Judging where to end a game
I don't think it's a question of short or long, but more about the fact that it's short because it would be too contrived if it was long. Maybe the problem is that it's not interesting enough for you to want to write. You could try adding some twists to the true ending that will keep the reader gue...

Judging where to end a game
I've been trying to finish up one of my projects over the last few weeks, but I'm having a bit of trouble deciding whether I've closed the story off properly. Basically: there are six endings to the game, and I tried to make all of them the same length/depth so none would seem weighted over the othe...

Re: Seven Stories with Tristram the Tailor [BxB/history/fant
Welcome back, Kitsubasa! Happy to see the project is progressing! Just to nitpick - isn't the font a wee too small? I don't think the screenshots are the same size as the game so the text will probably be 2-3 times larger in the finished product. Though what do I know. Bingo! LSF only all...

Re: Is getting a degree a good idea?
I've just been finishing a degree in media studies, but I've taken a fair few English/creative writing papers on the side. While the creative writing papers were interesting, they were mostly about writing a piece and then sharing it amongst a small group to get feedback. The information given by th...

Re: Seven Stories with Tristram the Tailor [BxB/history/fant
Well! It's been a little while since I last updated (almost exactly a month!) so I figure I owe some information at this point. I've been polishing up the game, trying to fix bugs and add in the remainder of the GUI, a process which is taking a wee while since checking every line of code and text fo...

http://i.gyazo.com/9e5f4847a6f43b2046d1c9d43277345d.png Hi Deji! I have a lot of trouble with elbows and feet. I don't quite understand how elbows are supposed to work, how to judge how long they should be, and how the muscles around them are supposed to go. These are the best elbows I've drawn (th...

Re: Seven Stories with Tristram the Tailor [BxB/history/fant
Haha, well, to help you work your brain around things (since I haven't really done a proper summation of the influences/inspirations since the first post, which was written when I was about 25% through the script)... HEDWIG The Hedwig elements are primarily in thematics and structure. After all, it'...

Funnily enough, yes! I was going to update in the next couple of days but I'll just throw up the new info I've got now, since you've reminded me (and also because a dose of flattery always goes a long way-- I'm glad you hear you like the look of things!). :D So, the game is pretty close to completio...

Namebox stretching? [SOLVED]
I've been trying to get a namebox working, but for some reason it keeps stretching out to a larger size than it's meant to be. Here is a picture showing how the stretching looks... http://i.gyazo.com/b402139782a465127d772d117c04df52.png ... and here's a file, with dimensions listed, of the way it's ...

Re: Writing a queer romance with little to no knowledge
I'd agree with trooper6 that treating GxG romance like hetero romance is the wrong approach, and I agree with all the suggestions they've made on the topic. Since they've approached things from an academic/objective perspective, I'm gonna take a slightly different tactic and offer some personal exam...
