Oh, but I bet there's no rpyc-->rpy uncompiler utility. (As if...lol)
So that's why.

I actually have one of these as well... but realize it doesn't work very well. There's a lot of information loss when going from rpy -> rpyc, so going back again means you lose comments, spacing, and various other information.

I don't distribute these tools, since many people dislike the idea of other people poking around in their game. (I use them for debugging Ren'Py, and also to study how people use Ren'Py, so I can improve the documentation.)

On a serious note, what does this mean for My Dear Teacher Mr. K?

I think a lot of the people had high hopes for it, so if the data recovery doesn't work out, will there be enough motivation to start over (or with the salvaged bits)? How bad is the destruction? Did you just lose a week's worth of work, or was the HDD not backed up at all? :?

50gigs of unsorted, unnamed files? That's awful!

If you need it, I've got a python script that's not particularly polished but renames files in batches. (But you'd need a full python install for it, so it might be more hassle than it's worth.)

And I'm glad to hear the good news. Here's hoping they can rescue your porn collection too! ;)

Ouch, that sounds like major pain. Especially for all the work you put on project Mr K.

Reminds me to always keep a second copy of a certain file in other places(Say burn it into a cd) when I create them. Since I got hit by such problem once and don't want an encore.

*breathes a sigh of relief.

Sorry I adopted mikey's side-commenting style...
22 gigs huh...that's more than my harddrive (fyi I got ONE 20gig drive*

*which actually measures 18.6 gigs, partitioned into windows (10 gigs) and linux (8.6 gigs). I keep my anime burned to disk and only copy ones I intend to watch.

So whose services did you use? Are they in the Makati area? I might give em a recommendation to my MIS supervisor.

mugenjohncel wrote:Now... how am I going to sort this jungle of nameless, unclassified data?...

That's another story.
Well, for starters, I would use a good file manager (Windows Explorer ISN'T one). Thinking along the lines of Total Commander (the demo version is fully functional, it only displays a nag screen at the beginning). Be sure to set in options to display hidden and system files and set that left-click displays file context menus.

TC has a range of powerful sorting and renaming tools built in already - in addition to that you can look at some renaming tools here: http://www.portablefreeware.com/?c=11&sc=45

You will also find some Total Commander alternatives in here: http://www.portablefreeware.com/?c=11&sc=9 , but TC remains the best and most powerful, even in demo mode.

Those "commanders" usually have a LIST or VIEW function (key F3), which lets you see the files as raw text - the good thing is, you can identify their headers (like PSD, PKZIP, RAR, etc...), so you don't need to rename by trial and error.

In any case, those are my suggestions, but note that I'm really a biased "commander" person, as all those windows-drag-drop nonsense is catastrophically slow, when you need to see and handle large amounts of files. Functions like handling packed files as directories and other completely essential things, best of all, it's primarily keyboard-operated, so it's very fast. For some reason though (personal experience) it seems these dual-pane file management applications have only caught on in Europe, the rest of the world seems to like dragging windows around. :P

I have *THE* program for you... I tried it on a bunch of random and various files and it identified 90% of them, leaving only very rare formats and DLLs (which it mistook for text files ô_o).
All JPG, BMP, and PSD files were recovered. Along with WAV, AVI, WMV, FLV, ZIP and RAR... darn!

http://mark0.net/soft-trid-e.html

Get the program at the bottom of the page, along with the definitions file. Uncompress both in the same directory.
It's used through a command line :

Code: Select all

trid -ae *
for example, will test all the files from the current directory and automatically add the extension it deems the most appropriate, leaving alone those it can't identify.
If your files are on a drive with letter "E", you'd go

Code: Select all

trid -ae E:\*
and that's it. Good luck ^^

Good to hear you're being able to get all the data back!!!

Just wondering...how will this affect the release date of My Dear Teacher Mr K? Obviously you want to make sure everything's OK and all the stuff's where it's supposed to...has this caused it to be moved at all or is it still when you initally expected it to be done? Because, if it's the latter, I tip my hat to you =).

Uh...my turn now.

Tuesday: Hard drive OK
Wednesday: Very rare popping sounds
Thursday: Increasing clanking sounds, and sometimes anime I watch would stutter
Friday: Whole thing just collapsed while I was watching Heroic Age. Yay for heroic timing.

I wasn't able to back up other users of the computer, but at least the more important parts of my work (i.e. my project) has been archived.

This was an extremely abused hard drive, I'm surprised it lasted almost six years. I didn't defrag often, but I did a lot of reinstalls. This recent installation was the longest I've had, and I wasn't expecting to ever reinstall.

Bought a new Seagate 160Gigs. Aaaah didn't know new harddrives were that big and that cheap.

Anyway, it's like I have a fresh computer now... barebones, just the programs I need and nothing more... got rid of the junk I had (like uh... gigs of porn.) It's like I'm born again or something.
