Who would be interested in a Ren'Py Course?
I've been noticing many requests for "Where do I start?" information. I was thinking about writing a tutorial, but I find I learn better by actually doing stuff.
Here is my proposal:
I would run a course that consists of weekly lessons and assignments. I would look over the assignments and offer feedback. At the end of the course the students will have a completed (but very short) Visual Novel.
There would be no charge for the course.
Would anyone be interested?
Susan

I would definitely sign up, but like Lumen_Astrum, I have homework every day and week too, so adding to it wouldn't be a good thing at the moment. >_< I do wish you the best with this adventure! xD It does really seem like a good idea!

I would be interested but I only have decent Internet access on the weekends, so I don't know if that would be a problem or not.

YAY! Glad to see an interest.
I'll come up with an outline tomorrow of what I want to cover and I'll post a starting lesson.

The course is going to be titled "Where do I begin?"
It covers: Programming Ren'py, Writing, and Graphics.
This is designed for complete newbies. That said, I hope that veterans will come by and offer their suggestions.
Requirements: a computer with a standard OS (Windows, Mac, or Linux) and an internet connection. No Programming or Graphics knowledge required!
Software: Ren'Py, jEdit(comes as part of Ren'py), GIMP (or other standard graphic editor such as Photoshop)
Planned subjects:
Programming:
Installing Ren'py
Basic commands
Making Decisions
Keeping Track of Things
Make a Joyful Noise
Making it your Own
Basic Animation
Writing:
Idea Generation
Theme and Genre
Plot and Structure
Characters in a Diner
Dialogue between Friends
Organization
Graphics:
Use What's Around You
Photography
Backgrounds
Characters
Acting with a Pencil
Colour Theory
About Me:
I've been a computer programmer for over 20 years, specializing in web application development. Some of my projects include online music education, art supply store, and company intranets. I have participated in NaNoWriMo for the last 6 years. My first NaNo book can be found on Lulu. I am a founding member of Freddy Words, a local writing group. I also have two web comics: one christian and one fairy tale.
