Hi everybody! I haven't been able to find any good masterposts, on this forum, or on the Interwebs in general, listing engines that allow you to make decent visual novels. All I've seen so far is individual descriptions and advertisements and whatnot.
(Consider this the masterpost I have been looking for XD)
So I'd like to know: what visual novel engines do you use? How do you use them? Are there any awesome games out there that have used this engine? Thanks so much!

Well, I'm currently using Unity but depending on your experience you may not want to dive into that. I actually gave a talk at Visual;Conference 2017 about using different game engines for visual novel development. I use visual novelty.
There are games made with it in the 'expo' section of the visual novelty forums.

As to whether or not any of the games are awesome, that's for you to decide.
There's also an active visual novelty group at deviantart

Some of my visual novels are at http://www.the-new-lagoon.com. They are NSFW

Someone made one I found on itch.io named Grandfathered In.
It's pretty much perfection because you can dress up the grandpa in sexy items and get him arrested for public nudity.
Definitely my favorite indie VN not made with Renpy.

Moa Cube's visual novels(created using Game Maker Studio) are very good examples. Check Cinders and Solstice, for example.
No, sorry! You must be mistaking me for someone else.

WoW, this was great, the video also lead me to the Tin Man Games talk which helped round out some ideas I had. My artist wanted to do some 3d work, so we ended up in unity. Is this visual;con something that goes on every year or was this the first one. Couldn't get much info off the site.netravelr wrote:Well, I'm currently using Unity but depending on your experience you may not want to dive into that.
