Queen At Arms is looking for an Editor [temp. closed]

Queen at Arms is an upcoming romantic wartime fantasy VN by Aqualuft Games.
We have received a fair handful of promising applicants already, so as of right now applications are closed! If this changes, we will let you know. Thanks so much for all the interest :)

We are currently seeking a dedicated Narrative Editor to join the Aqualuft team!

Duties of the Editor would include:
  • Checking the game's full script for typographical and grammatical errors, and correcting them
  • Monitoring the narration and dialogue for style and flow, and suggesting or making alterations as needed
  • Unifying the writing styles of multiple writers, ensuring consistency of narrative and character voices across the script
  • Identifying locations in the script where player agency could be more greatly enforced by adding choices or referencing previous scenes
  • Making suggestions to the rest of the writing team, as needed, about how to improve the script as a whole
As of now, the game's script stands at roughly 200k words, with ~20k more still to be added. The editing work will span 1-2 months, starting around the end of April. Because we will be working within a fairly tight deadline, we ask that applicants be able to dedicate at least 10 hours/week to working on this project. In addition, because there will be little time for training, we ask that applicants meet all or most of the following qualifications:
  • 5+ years of creative writing experience (amateur or professional)
  • Previous experience in proofreading and editing prose writing
  • Previous experience in working in a Ren'py script, or analogous coding experience
  • Familiarity with fantasy tropes and settings (preferred, but not required)
  • Familiarity with the narrative structure of visual novels or other interactive fiction (strongly preferred)
We want the game's script to read naturally, so the ability to work outside of prescriptive grammar and narrative structures, especially when it comes to dialogue, is a must!

If selected, applicants would be expected to be accessible for communication with the rest of the Aqualuft team, so being familiar with Skype (preferred) or other IM service is desirable.

Payment is a flat fee, paid via Paypal. The base offer is $200 (USD) total for the completed assignment, negotiable upon selection, with opportunity for pay increase or bonuses. If the work is completed in a satisfactory manner, the opportunity to continue work on the game's "Deluxe" edition release will be extended.

Applications will be accepted via PM or e-mail. Please include a link to your portfolio or writing samples, as well as a few details about your experience. Applicants who fulfill the requirements will be provided with a short editing test to complete.

We will be evaluating applications as they come in, but for priority consideration, please submit applications by Sunday, April 5.

To learn more about the game, please check out our Lemmasoft thread, Facebook page, or Kickstarter.

A demo, containing the first chapter of the game, is available here.

For more details about payment, other questions, or to submit an application, please PM or send an e-mail to queenatarms [at] gmail.com. Non-payment related questions also accepted below.

Thanks for stopping by, hope to hear from some of you soon!
